“Dante’s Divine Comedy ~ The Poem That Sparked The Renaissance”

Dante’s Divine Comedy is the greatest love poem ever written and the greatest profession of Christian faith. It is a profoundly beautiful statement of the power of reason and the ideal that man is the measure of all things. The Divine Comedy positioned the poet Dante as the first true figure of the Renaissance. This epic poem is where the Renaissance began! In this beautiful love poem, Dante introduces us to an idea that would ultimately become the central focus of the Renaissance: i.e., that God is supreme, but life is human. He articulated a special relationship between God and humanity, a relationship forged by love. He linked love between humans, the kind of love that Dante felt for his beloved Beatrice, with the love of God. In the Divine Comedy, Dante created the Italian language, he wrote what many consider to be the “perfect poem”, and he left the world the perfect account of the ultimate power of love.
